Blue Heron Bakery and Community Co-op is looking for a hardworking and focused individual to join our baking team for bread and granola production.

Our bread and granola bakers are highly-valued and essential for creating the quality products we sell in our store, the Farmer’s Market and to wholesale accounts across town and throughout the Pacific Northwest.

The position includes lifting large bags of oats and heavy mixing bowls, so you must be able to lift up to 60 lbs. and also be able to stand on your feet and move for extended periods of time. You will be responsible for baking and packaging granola. For bread baking you will be forming, proofing and baking. Accuracy and attention to detail is a must.

We’re looking for someone who can work well on their own as well as part of a team. You need to be reliable, organized, energetic and should be willing to continually learn and improve and be able to receive criticism well. A can-do, supportive, and upbeat attitude is a must.

Responsibilities

Bake bread and granola in a commercial oven, and package.

Clean kitchen equipment, dishes and workspace after use

Shape dough, proof and bake

Accurately fulfill wholesale orders

Skills

Experience as a cook, baker, food producer, or artist

Understanding of food safety practices

Excellent time-management skills

Ability to remain calm, courteous and focused in a busy kitchen

Team spirit, with a customer-focused attitude

You need to have (or be able to obtain) a current food-handler's permit. The position will be for 2 - 3 shifts a week with a total average of 16-24 hours per week to start with the potential for full time after training depending on skill level and experience. It is paid by the hour plus tips. This is an evening position, starting at 4PM and lasting 4-6 hours to start. The hours may vary slightly but our bread baking schedule is consistently Sunday, Wednesday and Friday nights and granola on Mondays and/or Tuesday nights.
