Organic Cafe Seeks Barista (part or full time)

Since 2005 Julie's Coffee & Tea Garden has been committed to nourishing the Alameda community and beyond, body and spirit. Julie's is a multi-award winning cafe specializing in organic coffee, loose-leaf herbs & tea, and healthy eats. We offer garden patio seating, community events, art exhibits, wellness workshops and more.

Julie's opened January of 2005. We've expanded our food menu to include wholesome and unique offerings, many of which are geared toward those with food allergies and diet preferences. (eg: vegan, gluten-free, grain-free, paleo, sugar-free, etc.)

We take pride in our team of inspired and knowledgeable staff members and we strive for consistent high quality products created with efficiency and passion.

Julie's is looking for a full or part time barista who is passionate about their craft and strives to produce high quality drinks. Ideally we are looking for a barista with over 2 years of experience working on an espresso machine, but we are willing to train the right applicant. The cafe is open 7 am - 4 pm daily and shifts are typically 8 hours long.

This role has many responsibilities including

• Ability to maintain cafe and bar front appearance

• Customer service: taking orders etc

• Tea, coffee, and espresso preparation, measurement, yield, and timing

• Knowledge of all products being served

• Overall team player

Job Requirements

• Work a minimum of 3 days a week including at least one weekend day.

• Must be able to lift 50 lbs.

• Ability to work in a fast paced environment

• Must be self motivated and able to work quickly on your feet for up to 8 hours

• Work with a sense of urgency

The ideal candidate

• is an extrovert who enjoys making conversation. A large percentage of our customers are regulars who enjoy having a friendly relationship with the staff. Being friendly and making eye contact are a regular part of this job

-good work ethic: you know how to stay on task, make yourself useful during slow times, and when to support your teammates without constant supervision - maybe you even have an interest in taking on a leadership role

-general interest in coffee & tea and/or healthy eating

-creative: you have a passion for, or an interest in learning, how to create specialty drinks. We offer different seasonal syrups and drink specials, including shrubs, mocktails, juices, coffee beverages, and tea lattes and it would be great to have a barista who can collaborate on fun new ideas

-a good communicator: you know how to speak up when something requires attention, communicate clearly and effectively with your teammates, and follow standards and protocols you have been trained on

-kindness comes naturally to you: we take a kindness first approach to how we do things at Julie's. That means being genuine and compassionate in your interactions

Pay DOE + tips (tips range an additional rate of $3-$7/hour per person)

Minimum payment for this position is $17.46/hour + tips
