Pastry Assistant
About the Job
Pastry assistant tasks change throughout the week. Some days you'll mix and shape scones, scale recipes, or prep quiche fillings and crusts. Other days could include baking cookies and cakes and keeping pastry production organized and stocked for busy weekends. You'll learn a wide range of production tasks. Your input, feedback, and ideas are welcome and encouraged. Heads-up: We all wash our own dishes and help with clean-up and closing.
About Us
Our bakery is located in downtown Point Reyes Station. Over the last 25 years, we've established a reputation for delicious, high-quality, naturally-leavened breads. The café and retail space opened in 2019, and we've expanded our repertoire to include pastries, savory lunch items, and a line of packaged goods.
Our Values
We strive to build community—with our staff; the farmers, producers, and businesses we work with; and with our neighbors and customers. We believe in environmental sustainability—we source local and responsibly produced ingredients, and minimize our waste and packaging. We also believe in human sustainability—we want to make this a good place to work! We have a close-knit team, we all genuinely enjoy each other, and we like to have fun, even if (when!) this place gets crazy.
Requirements and Schedule:We're looking for someone who genuinely enjoys baking, takes pride in doing things well, and has good common sense. This could be a great fit for someone fresh out of culinary school or someone with some professional kitchen experience who wants to keep learning. You should be organized, dependable, and comfortable with the repetition and rhythm that come with production baking. A sense of humor is a plus! Flexibility: This is a small operation and we believe in cross-training. You may be scaling cookie dough one day, shaping scones the next, or occasionally stepping in to support other pastry production as needed. Strong communication skills—ask questions, follow directions, work collaboratively. Physical stamina: ability to stand for long shifts and lift up to 50 pounds. Current CA food handler's permit (within 30 days of being hired) Full-time position. Weekday and weekend shifts required (with the possibility of working one weekend day). Compensation & Benefits:Hourly rate starts at $20-22, depending on experience. One free item for lunch each day, plus a 10% discount all the time. Simple IRA, paid vacation and paid sick leave (even for PT employees). Respond with resume and cover letter to: brickmaidenbreads@gmail.com
