Blue Heron Community Cooperative is looking for a hard working bread slicer to join our team. We are a local bakery committed to quality food. We sell our products in our store, at the Farmer’s Market and to wholesale accounts all across town. Besides being able to work independently and during night time hours, the ideal candidate would be efficient, friendly, and would work with care and attention to detail with a focus on food quality/safety. The bread needs to be sliced with attention to preparing boxes for our delivery team, and assuring each loaf is bagged with care. Our customers count on us to have delicious fresh organic bread ready for them in the morning. Taking pride in your work is important to us, as well as being highly reliable and dependable. This is a night shift job. You'll be working with one other teammate on Wednesday nights and Sunday nights.

Job Responsibilities

Slicing and carefully labeling and bagging our fresh baked organic bread

Washing dishes and cleaning your workspace, the bakery & slicing equipment, and sweeping up and mopping

Job Requirements

Excellent time-management skills.

Team spirit, with a customer-focused attitude.

Good attitude and receptive to feedback.

Six month commitment to the job.

Have an understanding of production and physical hard work.

Understanding of food safety practices.

Current food handlers permit or ability to get one.

Detail oriented and organized.

Ability to work while standing for an 8-hour shift.

Able to regularly lift 20-30 lbs.

Reliable transportation to work.

Ability to work nights. Our bread is mixed and sliced in the afternoon and evening. The bread slicer comes in as the bread loaves are cooling on the rack and operates a heavy duty slicer from 11pm to 6am.

Experience with the Oliver bread slicing machine a plus.

(Experience or interest in baking could lead to extra hours, though is not necessary to qualify for this position. )

(For this position, we don't require bread baking or bread slicing experience. Your work experience in a physically demanding job is valuable. We are looking for reliability.)

The shift starts at 11:00 pm and typically lasts 7-8 hours. There are 3 overnight shifts a week: Sunday/Monday, Wednesday/Thursday and Friday/Saturday.
